Alumni Spotlight | Prof. Kooktae Lee

• Our lab alumnus, Prof. Kooktae Lee, is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University, where he continues to pursue active research in robotics and control.

• His research focuses on multi-agent systems and robotic swarm control based on optimal density and Optimal Transport theory.

• Over the past nine years, he has served as a Project Lead on federally funded research projects totaling more than $1 million, including projects supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). He received the NSF CAREER Award in 2022 and has published extensively in leading journals in control and robotics, including IEEE TAC, Automatica, and IEEE TCST.

• In 2024, he conducted research on cooperative multi-robot exploration for lunar missions through a NASA MUREP-funded project. His research also includes applications such as autonomous robotic monitoring in wildlife conservation areas.

• "Uncertainty-aware LiDAR-based Localization for Outdoor Mobile Robots" Selected as a Top 10% Most-Viewed Paper in the Journal of Field Robotics

• The paper, “Uncertainty-aware LiDAR-based localization for outdoor mobile robots,” presents a localization framework designed to improve the reliability of LiDAR-based localization for outdoor mobile robots by explicitly considering uncertainty.

• The work was published with support from the Wiley–KERIS agreement with Korea University.
